TN- IOB Ropes in Private Player, Terminates 3,400+ Workers
A slab of workers, known as Business Correspondents (BCs) or ‘agents’, of the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has been terminated overnight. They are the point of contact for customers who are physically unable to access the bank. The 3,400+ workers are being asked to carry out this work through a private company named Integra. This move would reduce their income by more than half. The move came as a shock to the workers who were urging the IOB to regularise them. Some of them have been working for the IOB for more than ten years. If the move is not withdrawn, they are ready to take the struggle forward under the banner of BEFI.
