New Delhi: Five former chiefs of staff of the Armed Forces are among various ex-armed forces officers, bureaucrats, and prominent citizens who have written to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice N V Ramana among others, asking them to “curb incitement” to violence by some Hindu leaders in so-called Dharma Sansad in Haridwar.

Pointing out the "open call of the genocide of Indian Muslims" and the targeting of other minorities like Christians, dalits, and Sikhs in the country, the letter says “ Regardless of which persons or parties initiated calls for such genocide, Government of India and the Judiciary, at the highest level, need to take urgent action.”

The letter, signed by Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, Former Chief of Naval Staff,  Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat (Retd), Former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Arun Prakash, Former Chief of Naval Staff. Admiral RK Dhowan, Former Chief of Naval Staff, Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi, Former Chief of Air Staff. Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi, Former Vice Chief of the Army Staff among others, in particular, referred to a call made to Army by one of Sadhus .

“One speaker made a call to the army and police to pick up weapons and participate in the cleanliness drive (safai abhiyan). This amounts to asking the army to participate in genocide of our own citizens, and is condemnable and unacceptable. In view of the current situation on our borders, any breach of peace and harmony within the Nation will embolden inimical external forces,” said the letter, raising serious concerns over national security.
